Keeping the kids occupied this autumn may seem daunting, but the Chestnut Centre Otter, Owl and Wildlife Park has a few tricks up its sleeve for a happy Halloween and a horror free half term. Little wizards and witches can go wild with this season’s special events – starting on Saturday 22nd October with an autumnal animal Poo Trail.
Back by popular demand, the trail – which runs until Saturday 29th October – challenges children to match up different doo-doos with the right creatures, for special prizes.
With animals ranging from polecats to pine martens and fallow deer to foxes, as well as four species of otters and 15 species of owls, the kids will be kept busier than a broomstick factory.
Meanwhile, crafty kids will enjoy the park’s special Spooky Workshop on Saturday 29th October (1pm-4pm). As well as making spooky crafts and pumpkin lanterns to take home with them, they will get a chance to use their lanterns to scare away the spooks on a special, fun trail led by one of our guides.
Nature loving families who like to look and learn while walking with the wildlife, will enjoy our Autumn Trail and Quiz (Tuesday 1st November – Wednesday 30th November). Prizes are on offer to those who can spot the signs of autumn and identify the season’s changing animal behaviours.
Usual entry fees apply to all activities, with the Poo Trail costing an additional £1; the Spooky Workshop £3; and the Autumn Trail and Quiz £1.
The Chestnut Centre is located in the Derbyshire High Peak District, with the animals and birds displayed in a natural setting which includes woodland walks, gentle meadows and a mountain stream.
There’s also a cosy tearoom and gift shop.
