Beatrice von Preussen leads summer fun at Battersea Park Children’s Zoo

Beatrice von Preussen - BPCZ artist in residence

Talented illustrator and print maker Beatrice Von Preussen will be working with more lucky children this summer at Battersea Park Children’s Zoo.

Beatrice, artist-in-residence at Battersea, will be running several drop-in art and craft sessions in July and August, including a Butterfly Day, Bugs Day and Animal T-shirt Printing workshop.

Based in her studio in Brighton, Beatrice normally works on design projects for big name brands and celebrity clients as well as running educational and inspirational workshops for children.

“I grew up near to Battersea Park Children’s Zoo and I love it,” she said. “It’s a special and intimate place for children.  I’ve run several workshops at the zoo before and I enjoy the way children respond to animals and art with such enthusiasm.

“The sessions allow children to explore the natural world at the same time as being creative and give them the opportunity to spend time looking at and thinking about animals in a way they might not normally do.”

As well as sessions with Beatrice, visitors to Battersea Park Children’s Zoo will also be able to enjoy animal feeding time and feed making sessions, story time, mask making, puppet making, face painting and badge making over the summer holidays. There’ll be the chance to get up close to animals such as bugs and other creepy crawlies and to meet resident lizards and snakes.

Details of all the special events are outlined below, and there’s also information on the website at www.batterseaparkzoo.co.uk

About Battersea Park Children’s Zoo

Family-friendly Battersea Park Children’s Zoo is located in Battersea Park in the heart of London, next to the River Thames.

The zoo offers a perfect blend of animal adventures and playground fun, where children can get up close to an amazing range of animals, including emu, chipmunks, bearded dragon lizards, capuchin monkeys, lemur, tamarins, ferrets, parrots, snakes, mice, coati and ring tailed lemur.

They can meet resident wallabies Boomer and Juno, laugh at the antics of emus Ant and Dec, and spy on the meerkats in the secret lookout tunnel.  The donkeys chasing each other around their field are always a big hit with children while Kune Kune pigs Piggle and Wiggle just love to get attention.

At certain times of the year, children can help the keepers feed the farm animals in the Barley Mow Farm, including pigs, chickens and rabbits. There’s also a fun-packed adventure playground, with tractors, diggers, water play, sand pit, rides and life-sized fire engine. Birthday parties and school groups are welcome and animal adoptions are also available. See the website for further details.
